Aquarium of the Pacific. The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, one of the largest aquariums in the US, has nearly 1,000 species that fill 19 major habitats and 32 exhibits. Situated along Pacific Coast Highway, Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is a top US birding spot, attracting flocks migrating the Pacific Flyway between North and South America. Nearly 200 bird species are documented in Bolsa Chica each year, including rare and endangered species. Sightings of great blue herons, snowy egrets and brown pelicans are common, and lucky visitors can spot a rare white pelican at the right time of the year. Snowy plovers and more than 150 pairs of endangered Belding's savannah sparrows nest in the area. The best place to observe Bolsa Chica wildlife is from the footbridge and trail just off PCH. CBS Television City. See where Elvis Presley appeared on the "Ed Sullivan Show" for the first time in 1956 at CBS Television City, a studio made famous as the birthplace of the "Carol Burnett Show," "The Sonny & Cher Show" and dozens of popular CBS programs, including the original "Twilight Zone", "The Smothers Brothers," "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour," "Tony Orlando & Dawn" and "The Jacksons" - and talk shows like "The Dinah Shore Show," "The Mike Douglas Show" and "The Merv Griffin Show." If you're interested in seeing a TV show being recorded live, just walk up to the studio's ticket office (near the corner of Beverly & Fairfax) and pick up your tickets When David Letterman brings his "Late Show" out to the west coast, he tapes at CBS Television City, and you can get tickets to his rare L.A. shows if you write in advance.
